Is there a way we can start building the oil rigs to reduce the risk of an accident like this from happening?

    We could require the installation of acoustic switches which would be another back-up to “blowout preventers”.  This switch, which would have only cost BP (or the company that owns the rig) about $500,000 and should have shut the well off before the disaster reached such a large magnitude.
