It’s very easy to see. In populated cities you can simply see the smog sitting in the air, most of it coming from the multitude of cars driving back and forth everyday. Roads leading through natural areas can be seen to have raised levels of pollution from emissions and constant vehicular traffic. Birds get killed by plane engines, fish get hurt by propellers and pollution from tankers dumping in the ocean. It’s easy to see all the ways our transportation habits have affected our world.
You can also calculate your carbon footprint in order to see how your own transportation activities affect the environment (http://www.nature.org/initiatives/climatechange/calculator/).
