Is there a way for private investors to invest in the infrastructure to transport green energy?

The start up costs for the transportation of energy are remarkably high because of costs of superconducting electricity lines–especially ones that span multiple states. Thus, some of the only companies that are seriously investing in green energy transport are large energy companies like GE, etc. Private investors have the option of buying stock in these companies or directing their 401 (k)’s to support green energy (an SRI option).
