Yes, there are green plastics that can be made without fossil fuels. Researchers at Cornell have developed a process of making plastic from oil extracted from orange peels. In South Korea researchers have bio-engineered a compound, known as PLA, that can be grown and used to make plastics. This engineered compound can be grown and harvested thus producing a renewable source to make plastics from. This compound is also decomposable whereas oil based plastics are not.
