Yes, clean up crews use a sort of net that is stretched between buoys in order to keep the oil in one spot and help aid in the clean up of the oil. However, some of the oil gets through and this is what is washing up on shore. With a spill this big it is difficult and very costly to contain all of it, but we are doing the best that we can to limit its impact range.
