Is there a way to filter the river water before it makes it to the Mexican Gulf?

Well I think there might be a way  (now Im no scientist)  However, there are trees known as mangroves.  They grow their roots in water and it acts as a natural filter (which is why the water around Florida is so clear)

Im assuming you are referring to the Mississippi river, which is SO nasty its not even funny.  The closer you get to the Ocean, the worse the water gets. Perhaps growing mangroves could ease the pollution problem that we face in the Gulf right now.

Below is a picture of what a mangrove looks like [img_assist|nid=136219|title=mangroves|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=640|height=411]
