Yes! For many compost bins, both dry materials such as leaves and wet materials such as food scraps are needed for optimal decomposition. If you focus on building a big garden that provides a good balance of wet and dry materials to your compost bin(s), you can definitely accomplish this. Fruit trees will probably provide you with more fruit than you can eat and provide you with lots of wet material to balance the leaves that they drop. Slow-growing drought tolerant plants like rosemary that don’t drop their leaves can also help.
