That is actually a question that scientists at NASA have been asking themselves for some time. Just recently two probes sent by NASA were able to detect water molecules on the surface of the moon. First in September through spectroanalysis of light refracted on of the moon’s surface indicated the presence of water and more recently in October a lander impacted the surface and created a plume of dust in which water was also detected. Of course with the temperatures that exist on the moon and water will be most likely in the form of ice.
