Is there a toaster that uses little energy?

Most toasters use very little energy. In fact, you would save more in a year by switching one light bulb from incandescent to CFL than you would by never using your toaster. There is a special eco-toaster, called the Ecolectric (see link below), but it’s value in saving a worthwhile amuunt of energy is questionable.

You won’t be seeing any toasters with Energy Star on them, because they don’t use much energy in the first place. In fact, a 900 watt toaster used every day would take up 20 kWh in a year, while switching out one regular 100 watt light bulb for a 25 watt CFL on a light you use two hours a day would save 55 kWh per year. Toasters don’t produce light, just enough heat to make your bread crispy, which doesn’t take much. Just a few minutes of sunlight will do that.

Behold the Ecolectric Toaster. Apparently it uses 1/3 less energy than standard toasters.
