    Yes, there is certainly a direct relationship between the amount of coal power produced and the leading carbon emitters in the world.  Coal burning is the single greatest contributor to carbon emissions in the world.  Since coal generates around 54% of our energy, we kind of need it at this point, but the fact that it produces so many pollutants is a very bad thing.  There are about 600 major coal plants in the U.S. which burn about 1.5 million tons of coal each and emit 3.7 million tons of carbon dioxide.
