There doesn’t seem to be conclusive evidence that earth tubes heat exchangers are an effective method of air-conditioning, and therefore no proven design has emerged. However, a study conducted in 2003 lends credence to the concept. Researchers installed an earth tube system into a house and measured temperatures inside the home during the months of Janurary and May. Their findings suggest that earth tubes can be effective in cooling, AND heating, ambient air by as much as 14°C.
