Yes, there is a plan to introduce a high speed electric train to travel from LA to San Francisco. They also plan to build a rail which will travel through Sacramento and San Diego. The electrically powered train will be able to transport passengers from LA to SF in under 2 hours and 40 minutes. This trip would take about 5 to 6 hours in a car. This project is still in the planning stages and has not set a date to begin construction.
The California High-Speed Rail project headed by California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) and approved by Californian voters in 2008, is expected to take approximately eight to eleven years of construction and development that will begin in 2012 at the earliest.
