In individual colonies, if the bee population grows too small, then the bees are unable to produce enough honey and nutrients to maintain the colonny and all the bees die off. This is called “Colony Collapse Disorder.” Bees cannot survive individually, but need the collony to survive. While the exact number of bees neccesary to maintain a collony varies from species to species, most collonies require at least 33 bees in order to survive.
