Apparently combining baking soda with strawberries creates malic acid — a compound known to whiten teeth. It is important not to use this method too often, however, as the acid can damage the enamel on your teeth.
Wearing the enamel away on your teeth is counter-productive and unhealthy for your teeth. Better to build it up by maintaining a saliva/mouth pH that promotes remineralization and aiding the process with dilute, topical fluoride. It’s not a quick fix, but a far superior solution in the long run. Not only will your teeth be whiter, they will be stronger and more resistant to disease.
This is a great point misterworms. I think everyone is looking for a quick fix and they don’t realize the long term damage it can cause. Thanks.
Baking soda, lemon juice, peroxide and acidic fruits like apples or strawberries are excellent natural ways to whiten teeth. You can also help prevent teeth stains by avoiding things that stain teeth such as coffee, wine and cigarettes.
