Is there more species of trees in Canada or United states?

    There are 689 species of trees in the United States, according to the Society of American Foresters, who are quoted on this (very republican) discussion board:

    According to Natural Resources Canada, a Canadian government organization, there are about 180 species of trees in Canada.  Check the citation for the full article.

    So the U.S. has a much larger number of species, which makes sense, considering how different our climate is from North to South, and that both the U.S. and Canada have Arctic climates, since the U.S. has Alaska.
