Carbon trading is an industry, so making investments into it could yield some profitability. Smaller companies and individuals who do not need the allocated amount of carbon credits can sell them and conceivably make some decent money. However, given the lack of legitimate oversight and the fact that carbon credits are intangible commodities, it’s not a “safe” industry to enter, with the sole aim of generating profits. If emissions are reduced in the coming years, carbon credits may decrease in value (but that would be even better for the environment).
