IS there a lot of pollution in the Sierras from backpackers?

There is probably not much pollution–in the sense of contaminants emitted into the ecosystem–from backpackers in the sierras. Most backpackers, particularly in remote areas in the sierras, adhere fairly strongly to the Leave No Trace ethic, which includes packing out all your own trash. However, there is often still some trash left behinid, especially in more popular or easy to access places frequented by weekend warriors and rebellious teenagers.
