Is there a lot of energy used when making a bottle of water?

It take A LOT of energy to make a bottle of water – somewhere between 1,100 and 2,000 times more energy than it takes to treat and deliver the same amount of tap water. Scientists have estimated that plastic water bottle production alone uses about 50 million barrels of oil annually. However, a lot of bottled water is actually just tap water with a higher price tag! Still, bottled water remains extremely popular (it has outpaced both beer and milk in the US).
