New urbanism is a design movement that aims to create walkable neighborhoods that contain a number of housing and job options. This strategy would greatly influence the use of fossil fuels. Automobile transportation consumes a large portion of fossil fuels each day and new urbanization would give people the opportunity to walk rather than drive.
