While there is not a defense fund set up for the precise cause of environmental whistleblowing, it is illegal federally as well as in most states to discriminate against a whistleblower in the work place. There are specific laws established to protect employees who reveal any sort of wrongful employer practices (be it environmental wrongdoing, discrimination, illegal hiring practices, etc.). If an employee is punished following the whistleblow, the employer becomes liable and can be taken to court based on that punishment.
