Only fifteen percent of the old-growth remains in the United States, and in the lower 48 it is a mere five percent. These forests cannot be replanted, because of the centuries of growth they represented and the biodiversity that was also lost when they were logged. More important even than replanting logged areas is the preservation of what little old growth is left.
