Simply put, no. The extraction of resources that take thousands of years to produce at a rate far greater than the rate of renewal cannot be eco-friendly. Additionally, alteration of geography through mining is very destructive to ecosystems. The environmental hazards include acid drainage in to water systems, degradation of surface vegetation, increased erosion, waste runoff, and disruption of natural drainage.
