Is there a difference between green power and alternative power?

Green power refers to sources of power that are sustainable and environmentally better to use. Alternative power is more of a catchall, referring to sources other than what is commonly considered the mainstay power source. An example of green power would be solar power, but additionally an alternative could be nuclear power, which produces hazardous waste materials. Both are examples of alternative, but only one of them can be considered green.
