Is there a correlation between being poor and environmental awareness or sustainable actions in the U.S.?

It is often costly to make oneself available to environmental awareness education, along with the added expenses of buying organic, sustainably grown, or local foods – which are often more expensive.  Those who have lower incomes can only afford what is massed produced, which is rarely done sustainably.  Although they can still bring recyclables to their proper stations, because they don’t have access to as many resources, they are unable to be as environmentally conscious.
