Yes, around many public beaches in Hawaii, including Magic Island beach park next to Ala Moana, we have erected breaker walls that prevent waves from hitting the beach and making swimming conditions safer for children and weak swimmers. Breaker walls are also built around boat harbors to keep out waves and prevent the parked boats from jostling.
