Is there anything that should not be recycled through curbside recycling?

Styrofoam (polystyrene) is a big one. Although there are ways to recycle polystyrene, most curbside recycling companies won’t take it. When in doubt, it is best to call your local waste removal service and ask them what they will and will not accept. They may even mail you a guide to help you remember what services they do and do not offer. Since different recycling companies accept different materials, it is important to double-check with them.

Also, paper with lots of food on it like pizza boxes or soiled napkins are not good to recycle. The food gums up the recycling equipment. So, it is better to compost things like that.
