The same as one should do with a conventional car, ie: make sure the pressure of the tires are sufficient, use the heater and ac sparingly or lightly, conduct maintenance of the car reguarly to make sure it is running optimally, drive within an acceptable speed, not too fast and not too slow.
What majphan says is true. But of course the most energy efficient way to use a car is to not use one at all. Consider a bike, walking, taking public transportation, or carpooling. By not driving, not only are you not using gas, but you are also not using electricty to chrage your vehicle
