Renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, hydro and biomass, are clean forms of energy and do not emit greenhouse gases. The most obvious disadvantage though is that the cost of initiating these technologies is high, especially relative to their fossil fuel counterparts. Wind turbines are large and generate noise, and may also threaten the wild bird population. Hydroelectric energy affects ecology and may cause problems downstream due to the decomposition of vegetation along the riverbed.
