Dutch designer Gert-Jan van Breugel’s Bamboo Phone is green in just about every way: from the cell phone’s biodegradable bamboo materials, to its thoughtfully considered lifecycle, to its ingenious use of kinetic human power to charge the battery with renewable energy. Once the Bamboo phone’s battery, antenna, and print board are taken off, the remains can then be placed in compost, where they will reportedly begin to disintegrate within a few weeks. The phone also has bamboo seeds within the case that, once release by the disintegrating case, will start to grow and feed on the case. The Bamboo phone literally becomes bamboo in a few months.
