Is there any way to stop hydrogen from blowing up when powering vehicles?

This is actually a large part of the reason that you may not have heard much about hydrogen vehicles in the past year or so. Hydrogen powered vehicles are completely capable of being a serious threat to those driving them and can cause explosions. In August 2010, there was a large explosion at a hydrogen fueling station in Rochester, N.Y.

While every gas tank could be a potential bomb, hydrogen is extremely dangerous when compressed in to a tank. Many people are turned off by the idea because it is so often associated with the Hindenburg, a true hydrogen disaster. While it can power cars, hydrogen is not yet a viable option for the masses.
