Is there any way to prepare a dead body sustainably?

Joe Sehee, founder of the Green Burial Council is trying to make green burial the norm in America. One important standard for green burial is that the body is not embalmed. Embalming requires the use of chemicals such as formaldehyde which is toxic to the earth. Green burial would also mean no more concrete tombstones, or wood/metal caskets, as the point of a green burial is for the body to decompose naturally and become part of the natural earth. Getting rid of these materials in burial rituals would save lots of trees and cut down on unnecessary emissions.
