Is there any nutritional value to shark fins?

No. There is a lot of belief that it helps prevent cancer and so on, but there’s just none. Some studies show that it even can cause sterility in men.

Modern nutritionists have found high protein levels in shark fin, and indications that large amounts of gelatin (such as those found in shark fins) can help promote cartilage growth. However, since it’s very hard for our bodies to absorb the proteins and gelatin as they are found in shark fins, and so much of that passes through our body undigested.

Scientifically speaking, there are little to no long-term health benefits to be gained from eating shark fins, and because of the high amounts of mercury absorbed into shark cartilage, it may actually be deleterious to overall health.
