In terms of fruits and vegetables, does it matter which ones I eat or are they all equal in their environmental impacts?

One of the easiest ways to help out your environment is to find out what produce is in season at what time of year in your area. If you can eat food that’s mostly local and preferably organic, it’s both cheaper and more environmentally friendly. Where possible, avoid fruit and vegetables that you know must be grown far away (for instance, if you see bananas at the supermarket in midwinter and you don’t live on the equator, they’re probably not local).

That being said, even some of the most ardent advocates of local food point out that there’s nothing wrong with the occasional treat, or consuming limited exotic foods for health reasons.
