Is tagging the best way to get information on fish species?

I am not going to compare to other methods, but just a basic review of tagging. It really is not a great method. Even for trained professionals they only use it as a last resort because it can cause many issues in fish. It can often lead to a slow death for the fish or infection. Also, “tagging can disrupt normal behavior including feeding, swimming and even hiding.”

The PA Fish and Boat Commission do not really like the method, meaning it certainly isn’t the best way to get information on species (since it at the same times harms that species).
