One way to save the forests is to reduce the amount of permitted logging to a sustainable level. Currently, logging is done at un unsustainable rate. It takes far less time to cut down a tree than to grow one. A second way is to use natural regeneration practices in agriculture. If the same crop is planted in the same spot for multiple years, the soil may eventually become unusable. By planting a different crop every year or so, the soil can become usable again. Finally, it is a good idea to spread awareness of the diminishing forest problems to Pacific Island natives. If they know how important and dangerous this problem is becoming, they will be more cooperative with conservation policies and may also become proactive themselves.
