Is storm-water already polluted by the time it hits the ground, or does it pick up pollutants in the ground?

It depends on the amount of pollution in the atmosphere when the rain falls. In some unpolluted areas, rainwater is relatively clean, however in urban areas and areas with heavy carbon and nitrogen emissions, rainwater absorbs the pollutants in the atmosphere. Polluted rain, which is usually called “acid rain,” has adverse effects on plants, humans, and buildings.
