Not really as opposed to frying because those are being cooked in natural, renewable oils which do not really negatively affect the environment when they are cooked in. It maybe better than using an electric appliance such as a toaster oven or microwave which uses non renewable energy.
Generally. However, the biggest benefit steaming food is going to have is on your health. It is much healthier to eat steamed food than it is food that is cooked in oil or anything like that because there is no added fat. For other foods, it may also increase the vitamins and minerals with steaming.
