Your skeleton provides support for your muscles and organs, in the same way that a steel frame of a building helps to support the overall structure. Bones provide ridigity and shape that keep your body from collapsing on itself. Your skeleton also plays a major role in any form of movement. Your skeleton acts as levers and anchors for your muscles to pull against, making movement possible. Many parts of your skeleton also have protective properties, particularly your skull, ribcage and vertebrae.
