No, while springs are usually in safe places, there is still the possibility that it could be contaminated. Run-off and pollution from many industrial and residential neighborhoods has been known to leech into groundwater reserves and aquifers, tainting wells and springs alike. Logging, Mining, power plants, industrial manufacturing, improperly treated waste and sewage water have all be known to poison otherwise healthy wells, springs, streams and rivers. Additionally, some springs can be contaminated through natural means including dead animals (which can fall into wells/springs and contaminate them) or naturally occurring elements that can be dangerous to human health.
