According to the 2008 Report on the global AIDS epidemic, fewer people are getting infected with the AIDS virus than in previous years. Much of this is due to increased access to treatment and early testing. However, despite the progress, AIDS continues to threaten populations across the globe.
AIDS is rampantly spread among the poorer red light districts of developing nations. In these areas, protection is notoriously absent and the expoitation of sex workers is common. Thus, women who have AIDS spread it to children, and the cycle continues. The infection rate is starting to slow because of increased testing, availibility of protection and more education. However, more needs to be done in poorer nations to spread awareness and adequate protection and testing services.
