In Aug. 2009 MSNBC reported that life beyond Earth maybe possible. The reasoning previously has been that life could not exist on other planets because of the amount of time it takes for intelligent life to evolve is longer than how long many of the stars have existed. However, astrobiologist Milan Cirkovic and his colleagues found a flaw in that reasoning; they have determined that the lifecycle of a star and the time that is takes intelligent life to develop are independent of one another. He believes that the two time cycles take about the same amount of time and may even occur at the same time. If the two time periods happen at the same time, Cirkovik still argues that they a not independent but deeply entwined and that it is still possible for intelligent life to be present.
