Most certainly. Most people fail to realize the magnitude that environmental crimes can entail, and without education there’s no way to increase prevention.
It depends on a culture’s sense of values and ethics. Personally, I think environmental crimes are the most heinous since it has no chance of defending itself. On the other hand, some cultures might have no respect for the earth and therefore punishment wouldn’t even occur to them. In the long run, I think it is best to set the example by conforming more to the idea that harming the environment should be considered a great disgrace. After all, the environment can’t advocate for itself unless we intervene and advocate for it ourselves.
