Is Shell drilling oil in the Arctic Sea?

  1. 0 Votes

Shell Oil recently received permission from the Obama Administration to drill for oil and gas in the Beaufort Sea of Alaska. Many environmental groups are seriously concerned about this, because the drilling will damage the habitat of polar bears, walruses, endangered bowhead whales, and other Arctic wildlife. In addition to the impacts of drilling itself, increased oil and gas extraction in this region also carries with it a serious risk of oil spills, which would be extremely difficult to clean up if they occur. Several environmental groups have warned that Obama’s move to open the Beaufort Sea to more oil drilling is the same sort of mistake that the Bush Administration made time and time again.
