The short answer is yes, but they are really start to get in the spirit lately. Sempra Energy, who already owns a 10-megawatt PV solar farm near Boulder City, Nevada, and wants to expand it by 48 additional megawatts, has announced a new project that could dwarf those: The company is looking to build up to half a gigawatt of new solar capacity near Phoenix, Arizona. Sempra doesn’t know yet if it’s going to be solar PV or solar thermal, or a combination of both. Construction could start on this as soon as 2012. It will be built near the Mesquite gas power plant so it can just tap into the pre-existing power lines.
As of now no. But they recently put out their first corporate responsibility report that says they will invest in clean energy sources like natural gas and solar power and their commitment to an ethical and safe workplace. Also, they want to share the measures that they have taken to preserve the wildlife and habitat in and around their facilities and explain how they have refocused their giving strategy by establishing the Sempra Energy Foundation, which partners with nonprofit organizations to create sustainable and responsible change in their communities.
So bottom line, no they don’t deal with solar energy now, but it looks like they will in the future.
