Yes, sand is the result of erosion. There are different erosional processes that lead to different types of sand. For example, aeolian erosion (of the wind) results in sand dunes. Water, ice, and wave action are other forms of erosion. The fast water in streams can pick up particles, and then deposit them. This is the way that deltas, at the mouth of rivers, are formed.
