The common misconception seems to be that rust is the leading cause of Tetanus, however, rust itself is a very simple iron oxide compound and is harmless to the human body. Tetanus and other bacteria and infections are caused by exposure to soil and manure.
While it is not advised, the consumption of iron oxide would only boost one’s blood iron levels, which in turn could lead to more serious nutritional imbalances that should be avoided.
