Runner beans are said to be good for beginner gardeners.  Your soil should be rich in peat (organic rotted matter).  The soil should also not be rich in nitrogen.  Nitrogen is extracted from the air by the runner beans, which is then stored in its roots.  If you have nitrogen in your soil this could result in a flowering plant that produced little or no beans at all.

Make sure to protect your beans from frost if you can get the beans to grow because any cold will hurt the plant.  Plant your beans around March and so the beans near late April.  Good Luck!
