recycling one pound of silver saves how many pounds of mercury

Mercury (Hg) and Silver (Ag) are two completely different chemical elements that occur naturally in different compounds on earth. Mercury is called “quicksilver” because of its silvery color and is the only metal in the liquid state under room temperature and pressure. However mercury can alloy very well with silver, and such amalgams as they’re called were used as dental fillings until mercuric toxicity forced us to use composite fillings instead. So perhaps recycling silver can help curb mercury consumption when producing toxic dental fillings. Hopefully those practices have stopped.
