how does radiation affect the environment?

Radiation damages the DNA of all living things. This can simply cause a cell to die or lead to cancer. Cancer is not unique to humans. It can occur in any animal. When radiation affects the reproductive (egg and sperm) cells, they most often cause fatal mutations that does not allow the developing organism to survive. However, in rare cases the mutations will cause physical abnormalities. This can be anything from having an extra toe to missing eyes. Radiation has never been known to give people super powers. That’s all fiction.
