Is PVC always dangerous?

According to the Center for Health, Environment, and Justice, PVC is the most toxic plastic to our health and the environment, and no other plastic contains and releases as many harmful chemicals. There are so many risks associated with PVC, I’d say it is always dangerous.

Most alarmingly, PVC contains carcinogens (cancer-causing agents) and the most dangerous chemicals can be released into the air. When burned, PVC is even more harmful. “The production of PVC still releases hundreds of thousands of pounds of nasty chemicals into the air every year, including VCM.”

On a more positive note, people use PVC pipes in aquariums for breeding structures and there don’t appear to be any adverse effects on the fish.
